This article gives more information on how to travel between Lörrach region and Basel region.
Let's start with the basics
Before checking-in on the FAIRTIQ app, you need to select the region. It will impact the validity of your ticket.
- By selecting "Switzerland and Liechtenstein", you will have a ticket valid on the entire area of validity of the Swiss GA (General Abonnement). It will be charged in CHF and you can travel in the entire Swiss area surrounding Basel, by train, tram, bus, boat, etc. More information on this link.
- By selecting "RVL Lörrach", you will have a ticket valid on the entire network of "Regio Verkerhrsverbund Lörrach", by train, tram, bus, etc. It will be charged in EUR. Note that the RVL Lörrach region also allows travel by train to Basel Bad and Basel SBB. More information on this link.
Travel by train from Basel region to Lörrach region
If you stand at Basel SBB (or Basel Bad) station, and you want to take a train to Germany, make sure to select the region "RVL Lörrach" before checking-in. You will be charged in EUR.
Travel by tram/bus from Lörrach region to Basel region
As FAIRTIQ is not allowed to sell international ticket yet, you will need to stop FAIRTIQ at the border, change region and reactivate it for the subsequent region. You will be charged in CHF for the Swiss section and in EUR for the German section. You will find more information on this link.
Two more tips
- If you travel internationally, make sure that your subscription includes data roaming in the other country.
- You need a valid means of payment for both regions.
