Travel with your Tourist Card using FAIRTIQ in Zug

Welcome to the Zug Region! If you are staying in the region and have received a tourist card at your hotel, you can enjoy free public transport trips within the region using FAIRTIQ! This guide will walk you through how to use your tourist card, what areas it covers, and how to resolve any issues that may arise. 

How it Works

  1. Get Your Tourist Card at Hotel Check-in
    When you check in at your hotel, you will receive your tourist card.

  2. Find Your FAIRTIQ Promo Code
    Open your tourist card and locate the 20-digit FAIRTIQ promo code.

    The distribution of the FAIRTIQ Promo Code is organized by the respective tourism agency. For any questions, refer to: Zug Tourism FAIRTIQ

  3. Download FAIRTIQ and Create an Account
    Download the FAIRTIQ app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and create an account. You’ll be asked to add a valid payment method (just in case you travel outside the free journey area). Add companions if traveling with them. If you have a Swisspass, link it to your profile and your companions' profiles.

  4. Add Your Tourist Card Promo Code
    Enter the promo code from your tourist card into your FAIRTIQ account to activate your free journeys within the validity area.

    ⚠️ If you don’t properly add your promo code, your trips will be charged to your payment method.

  5. Travel Using FAIRTIQ
    Travel as usual with the FAIRTIQ app. Be careful—if your journey goes beyond the free travel area, you will be charged for the entire trip.

  6. Voucher Generation
    At the end of your journey, the regular price for the trip appears. If your journey qualifies for free travel, a voucher will be automatically generated to cover the cost. You can find it in the "Promotions" section of the app.

  7. Invoicing
    The voucher will be applied to your invoice overnight, reducing the price of your trip to zero. You can check your updated invoice in the app the following morning.

Area of Validity

Please note that only journeys entirely within the validity area are covered by your tourist card. If you travel outside the covered area, you will be charged for the whole trip.

  • All public transport within TV Zug in 2nd class, including boats on Lake Zug and Lake Ägeri.

📱 How do I add my tourist card code to the app?

After receiving your tourist card, open the FAIRTIQ app and enter the 20-digit promo code in the "Promotions" tab of your FAIRTIQ app. The FAIRTIQ app will notify you when the promo code has been correctly added.

🚉 Can I use my account to travel with FAIRTIQ elsewhere?

Yes, FAIRTIQ allows you to travel:

After the Trip

😡 FAIRTIQ charged me a trip which is supposed to be free!!!

Don't worry - it probably is not the case! At the end of each trip, FAIRTIQ shows the regular price & issue a voucher of an equivalent amount. The voucher is visible in the "Promotion" section of your FAIRTIQ app & the voucher will be added by FAIRTIQ onto your invoice during the night after the journey.

💳 Why was my payment method charged?

This might happen if you traveled entirely or partly outside the validity area, or if you did not correctly add your promo code. 

If this happens, feel free to contact our dedicated support team via your FAIRTIQ app by using the keyword "ZC". While we cannot apply the offer retroactively or issue refunds, but we may offer travel credit to be used anywhere in Switzerland.

🤑 Can I get a refund if I traveled in 1st class or outside the validity area?

It is not possible, as the tourist card only covers journeys made entirely within the area of validity in 2nd class. If your journey is fully or partially outside the validity area, it will be fully charged.

😢 What if I entered my tourist card code after my trip?

The free journeys apply from the moment you've entered the promo code. If you add it after your trip, future journeys within the validity area will be free, but past journeys cannot be refunded.
